After my Marine graduates and after his 10 day leave, what types of communication will we have?
Q. All through his Basic Training we could only write.. Does he get to keep his cell phone when he leaves after his 10 day leave is up?
Asked by osu_peeps22 - Thu Nov 13 01:56:21 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. In MCT or SOI, he will usually have liberty in the weekends (unless he gets it taken away). He can use the phone. I also believe there is internet privilege if he has a laptop. HOWEVER, don't bring anything valuable since theft is a common occurence.

types of marine communication?
Q. types used by private yacht to comunicate to shore
Asked by bobcatdec - Fri Dec 15 11:47:32 2006 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Typically today, VHF (Very High Frequency) which has limited scope in terms of distance, SSB (Single Side Band) for much longer distances are used for two way communications. VHF is usually used to call up harbours, marinas other vessels, Channel 16 emergencies and the like. Of course the Aldis lamp or Semaphore are also options providing you are within site of the shore and know your codes and Morse. But the chances of finding someone at random that also knows these codes is pretty remote. Today, providing you are within range you can use a mobile phone, if not there are sat. phones but these are usually very expensive. There is also a one way ship to shore communication which is used in a dire emergency via an EPIRB or 406 MHz beacon.… [cont.]

marine corps!!!! Can i get an mos in data communication without being a citizen?
Q. my asvab score is good enough for mos 0651 and 0656...is there a waiver they can file? And what r da odds i can get dat job
Asked by desidude420 - Wed Aug 4 13:26:13 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. No sir. Those MOS's require you to have a secret clearance and if you are not a citizen, then you are not gonna receive any clearance. You will not get a waiver for this. Plus you must be a US citizen in order to qualify for those two jobs. You must pick a job that does not require a clearance.

What Marine Corps Communications MOS should I pick?
Q. I was told you get to travel a lot in com. and the technology aspect interests me. I was also told you get to work with the grunts also. In your opinion what Communications MOS in the Marine Corps do you think is the best. 73 on the asvab mm=101 GT=105 EL=110 CL=120 My GT is not high enough for Data network specialist. You need a 110 for that.
Asked by Chad - Tue Jul 13 01:00:15 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Is working with the grunts a big deal to you? Do you even know how working with the grunts would go? The answer is, no you do not. A comm MOS can end up in a variety of units. So just because you pick one doesn't mean you will get sent to a grunt unit, and even if you did this still does not mean you would be attached to a company of grunts. I sure hope they explained all this to you. Read through this page here, especially the last section about the Infantry/Radio operator MOS's.

What MOS in Marine Reserves is better. Communications or Infantry?
Q. I am a person that like to get dirty and is very physical. I am just taking into consideration of being front lines, or being at a boring communications job. I am in New York Infantry frontlines getting kill almost instantly or what?

A. It depends on what you want for yourself. Which reserve station is closest to you? Communications school is is 29 palms, CA and infantry is either camp Pendleton, CA or the east coast, NC...Do you want to be a communicator or a grunt..I was a communicator with the grunts so I had the best of both worlds...If you dont want to play in the dirt as much and if you hate physical activity like humping and running then go communications because you wont do it AS MUCH..I was active duty but after active I was reserve and that was that..Either one you wont go wrong...Semper Fi

what are some job options a MARINE would have after having served for 4 years in the military?
Q. for instance, a marine would automatically be qualified to begin a job as a police officer,... are there any other occupations that someone would have the advanced opportunity to obtain due to military experience? experience is limited to infantry and radio communications.
Asked by my name is nichole. - Tue Oct 13 09:41:42 2009 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Military service doesn't count as a degree or anything... military men are usually not hired for law enforcement jobs either since the USMJ is completely different from civilian law. You still need a degree. You may gain a leg in leadership positions, since (some) employers like the leadership experience the military gives. Don't think that service is a replacement for college, because it definitely isn't.

Q. What is the Marine MOS 28 Communications Field like? Does is deploy often?
Asked by J.L - Sun Apr 13 19:48:31 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It's not a bad field. If your a basic radio operator or wireman, you won't really learn any skills to use once you get out of the Marine Corps. If you can, try to become a Satcom Operator or a radio/wire/it tech. You'll learn skills that are transferable to the civilian world. As far as deployments go, it really depends on the unit. I was with a Victor Unit (infantry) and I deployed 2 times in my 4 1/2 year career and did numerous 1-2 week deployments. If you can get with a Radio Battalion, or FSSG, you probably won't deploy every 18 months like a grunt unit. But the deployments are fun. I was able to see 18 countries during my 2 deployments. Good times

Any information on how military prison works in the marine corps (the brig)?
Q. My boyfriend is in his third year of active duty. He is at camp lejeune. He was UA for three weeks and his first sergeant told him yesterday that he was going to be sent to the brig. He reported this morning and I haven't heard from him. Is it possible that he is already in the brig? And is there any means of communication to him while he is in there, letter writing, emails, etc? Also can they hold him past the date he is due to get out of the service? Any websites with information would be helpful.

A. You could write letters, they will more then likely be read before he gets them though. I have provided a link for you and you should google UCMJ and look up his offense, the possibilities may scare you, but don't get all worked up. If he has a clean service record before this, they may go lite on him. It all depends on the actual charges and all kinds of other things. Also- The offense of Desertion, under Article 85, carries a much greater punishment, than the offense of AWOL, under Article 86. Many people believe that if one is absent without authority for greater than 30 days, the offense changes from AWOL to Desertion, but that's not quite true. The primary difference between the two offenses is "intent to remain away… [cont.]
