Circular motion (Physics)?
Q. Please good people help me with this nightmare! Thank you in advance! 1.Calculate at what speed Earth would have to rotate in order that objects at the equator would have no weight. Earth radius=6400 km. What is the linear speed of a point in equator? What would be length of the day under these conditions? 2. Engines for propeller-driven aircraft are limited in their maximum rotational speed by the fact that the tip speed of propeller must not approach the speed of sound in air. Taking 6 ft as a typical dm for propeller of a light airplane and 1100 ft/s as the speed of sound, find the upper limit on the rpm (revolutions per minute) of the propeller shaft.

Did the old piston driven war planes (P51, B25) have gear linkage between the engine and prop?
Q. Or was it all on one shaft, engine and propeller?

A. The P-39 and Me-109 were prime examples of the gear driven props. The P-39 engine was located behind the pilot, with a driveshaft going under the pilot to the prop gearbox. The Me-109 had a gearbox to allow the centrally mounted cannon to fire through the hub of the prop.

plane propeller thrust?
Q. I would like to know how much thrust I can get from a 54 inch diameter propeller with 36 degree pitch using a 160 horsepower car engine with a reduction drive system of 2.8 to 1. Thank you so much! Any other details you feel are important to note, please post them.

A. Propeller efficiency is defined as: eff = "K" * Thrust * Speed / Power (where "K" is a constant to account for units). If the system of units is Pounds (thrust), Horsepower (power) and Knots True Airspeed (KTAS), then the equation becomes: eff = ( Thrust * KTAS ) / ( HP * 326 ) (if you prefer MPH instead of Knots, use 375 instead of 326) The equation for efficiency has other useful forms. Rearranging the terms, the equation for the thrust produced at a known airspeed, engine power, and prop efficiency is: Thrust = ( HP * eff * 326 ) / KTAS To find the HP required to produce a known thrust at a known airspeed and prop efficiency: HP = ( Thrust * KTAS ) / ( 326 * eff ) To find the speed which can be reached with a known engine HP,… [cont.]
