New Zealand is an island country in the south-western Pacific Ocean comprising two main landmasses (the North Island and the South Island), and numerous smaller islands, most notably Stewart Island/Rakiura and the Chatham Islands. The indigenous Māori language name for New Zealand is Aotearoa, commonly translated as The Land of the Long White Cloud. The Realm of New Zealand also includes the Cook Islands and Niue (self-governing but in free association); Tokelau; and the Ross Dependency (New Zealand's territorial claim in Antarctica).

New Zealand is notable for its geographic isolation: it is situated about 2,000 kilometres (1,200 mi) southeast of Australia across the Tasman Sea, and its closest neighbours to the north are New Caledonia, Fiji and Tonga. During its long isolation New Zealand developed a distinctive fauna dominated by birds, a number of which became extinct after the arrival of humans and the mammals they introduced.

The majority of New Zealand's population is of European descent; the indigenous Māori are the largest minority. Asians and non-Māori Polynesians are also significant minority groups, especially in urban areas. The most commonly spoken language is English.

New Zealand is a developed country that ranks highly in international comparisons on many topics, including education, economic freedom, and lack of corruption. Its cities also consistently rank among the world's most liveable.

Elizabeth II, as the Queen of New Zealand, is the country's head of state and is represented by a Governor-General, and executive political power is exercised by the Cabinet of New Zealand.

A. There's a helluva lot of red tape involved - and of course, fees. You must prove to the Police that you are a "Fit and Proper" person, which means; no convictions, good character and referees who can attest to that. Then you fill in the form. Of course you must have a drivers licence, before you get your passenger service (passenger) licence. You must demonstrate that you know all the law, all the geography of the area in which you intend to work, and can handle a vehicle with precision. It may take 6 months. If you are the owner of the vehicle being used, your must hold a passenger service (vehicle) licence too. These vehicles are subject to very strict and rigid engineering and safety standards called a CoF. The dimensions between seats, [cont.]

A. I had a whv for NZ about 2 years ago, it cost about 45 quid. Was real easy to get, just applied through the post and it took about 1 week. I would thoroughly recommend it, NZ is a beautiful place, would love to go back there one day. Good luck!

Air New Zealand vs British Airways in business from LAX to LHR?
Q. Has anyone taken the Los Angeles to London flights on both airlines to compare? I'm planning an upcoming trip and finding the prices to be very similar between both airlines. Air New Zealand's business class looks interesting and the airline seems more "chill," but BA is well...BA and sorta a stalwart in transatlantic business class. Anyone compared them?

A. Try checking the boards at www.flyertalk.com for reviews from travelers who have been in both. Safe travels!
