CALIfORNIA!!!?????
Q. For Calif. police, laser is the new radar: It used to be that if you liked to speed but didn't want to get a ticket, you could buy a radar detector and hope for the best. B u t that's not a good idea in the High Desert. Traffic deputies in the area use laser technology called Lidar to determine who is speeding and who is not. While radar is still used on many cars and serves a different function, laser is not picked up by radar detectors. Even if you were to purchase a laser detector, the laser is only transmitted when a deputy shoots it at your vehicle. "Meaning, but the time you're locked in and the detector alerts you, it's already too late. You're caught," said Deputy James Marshall of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's… [cont.]

A. Good for the Police!! There are way too many speeders here!! (Northern California) Maybe it will help decrease the unbelievable accident rate and make the roads safer for those of us that actually obey the traffic laws...

What animals hunt California Condors and how do California Condors defend themselves?
Q. I only know these animals that hunt California Condors, but these animals only hunt California Condor Chicks. Although I have no idea how California Condors defend themselves. 1. Ravens break condor eggs when they can and eat them. 2. Golden eagles and coyotes watch for a chance to snatch condor chicks as the young birds explore their surroundings.

A. It is rare for any predator to hunt condors. They defend themselves by flying away. They don't perch where they can be hunted.

I can imagine this varying by jurisdiction, so in particular, I'm interested in California, but if anyone has definitive information for other states, that'd be of interest to me as well. Please back up your response with some sort of reference. Thank you.

In California what are the differences between a Real estate Broker and a Real Estate Agent?
Q. I am aware of the educational differences (extra classes, seperate exam), but what are the job differences? What makes them so different that they get different licenses? And finally is there a big salary difference? I am in California and looking for info specific to here. Thank you in advance!
Asked by bookdevotee - Tue Sep 11 20:23:06 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The broker is the person with the supervisory responsibility for the agents in the office. Agents work under the supervision of the broker. Most of the time you must have at least some experience as an agent before you can apply for a broker's license, although California will waive that for people that have a four-year degree from a regionally accredited college. Since very few real estate salespeople or brokers actually draw a salary, the second part of your question is difficult to answer. Brokers may (but don't always) get a percentage of the commission from each agent working under them. It depends on the contract that the agent has with the broker. I know several agents that are making far more than their brokers, although… [cont.]

How is California's call for a Constitutional convention similar or not to reforms in Honduras?
Q. From my reading business leaders are pooling funds to sponsor an initiative to ask the voters of California to re-write our state's constitution in an effort to make our state more competitive or so they argue. In Honduras, it is argued their leader had wanted to change the constitution so that it would allow him to remain in power. It seems like the only difference is in the wording. Why would people riot in one country and not in another one when they are affected in familiar ways?
Asked by ronfschmidt - Mon Aug 10 20:41:55 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. In Honduras the leader wanted to single-handedly change the constitution in a way that benefited only him. In California, they want to hold a convention consisting of people democratically elected to the job from all over the state to make wholesale revisions to the constitution about things that have nothing to do with them personally. Not very similar at all.

How can California retain more employers and tax payers and get rid of more tax takers and welfare recipients?
Q. The math just doesn't work. A full third of all Americans on welfare have moved to California while businesses are leaving in droves and taking their jobs to states with lower taxes. Is there any way for this state to survive?
Asked by Cali - Wed Dec 16 23:15:55 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The state will have to lower what it spends, specifically on social programs so the state isn't a haven for welfare recipients. Once it lowers what it spends, it can lower its taxes and begin to attract those who pay taxes.

Q. Someone I know is visiting California in June and wants to change her plans because of California being gloomy and foggy the whole month of June. She thinks that the sun will only shine for 2 hours and the trip will be miserable. How true is this? A. Both will be hot, with Lancaster being in the Mojave desert even more so. Foggy? In LA it is smoggy almost all the time. She must be confusing the area with Spokane or Portland. It isn't gloomy, but fine for the beach. Lancaster is too far out from the wonderful traffic and shipyards in Long Beach and LA - 70 miles to have smog.

A. You should review the requirements from the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors. A degree in anything will not get you a Survey license, not even one from Fresno. You will need to sit for and pass two separate 8 hour examinations with a bit of work experience in between them. Education will help, but it is not the direct route. You should log on to their website ( ) and read thru the requirements and process so that you can adjust your education and perhaps frame your summer jobs. good luck.. Its a good profession.. almost recession proof since in California there are only about 4,000 licensed surveyors, many of them are retired or slowing down, and its a damn big state .
