Education in the largest sense is any act or experience that has a formative effect on the mind, character or physical ability of an individual. In its technical sense, education is the process by which society deliberately transmits its accumulated knowledge, skills and values from one generation to another.

Etymologically, the word education is derived from educare (Latin) "bring up", which is related to educere "bring out", "bring forth what is within", "bring out potential" and ducere, "to lead".

Teachers in educational institutions direct the education of students and might draw on many subjects, including reading, writing, mathematics, science and history. This process is sometimes called schooling when referring to the education of teaching only a certain subject, usually as professors at institutions of higher learning. There is also education in fields for those who want specific vocational skills, such as those required to be a pilot. In addition there is an array of education possible at the informal level, such as in museums and libraries, with the Internet and in life experience. Many non-traditional education options are now available and continue to evolve.

A right to education has been created and recognized by some jurisdictions: since 1952, Article 2 of the first Protocol to the European Convention on Human Rights obliges all signatory parties to guarantee the right to education. At world level, the United Nations' International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights of 1966 guarantees this right under its Article 13.

education ??
Q. Hi, I'm home educating my child for the first time & i have to write an answer for this qustion for the department of education. only i do not understand it says the home educator provides information about: Analysis, Problem solving, Communication, planning & collaboration ??? thank you

A. It's basically saying your requirements when you are teaching your child: you have to teach him to analyze things (math problems, letters of the alphabet), you have to teach him how to solve problems (short-answer questions, more math problems), you have to teach him how to communicate (speaking, English and another language, manners), you need to plan your lesson plans for your son, and he should probably plan for his future (never too early), and you have to teach him how to work with others, or collaberate.

What is the education requirement difference between a neuropsychologist and psychologist?
Q. I was wondering, what is the difference between the education needed to become a neuropsychologist vs. a psychologist? I know there is obviously a difference, and I'd lie to know how much more education one needs to be a neuropsychologist. Are there more science-based classes that need to be taken? I want to be a neuropsychologist, but I don't know how much more I would have to do in school. If it's as much as a doctor, then I definately won't. Thanks so much.

A. The training is different. You want to find a school that has a neuropsychology specialization and ensure that you take classes on physiological psychology, neuroanatomy, neuropsychological testing, and psychopharmacology.. You should also obtain a predoctoral internship in neuropsychology that is APA or CPA accredited. After you graduate, you will need a postdoctoral neuropsychology residency or fellowship. What is your philosophy of higher education?
Q. I am trying to write a paper for one of my classes, and am having a hard time finding information on the topic. Our prof wants us to get others philosophies of higher education and evaluate them and come up with our own. However, when I search "philosophy of higher education" all I get is info on PhD programs! So, if you are a higher ed administrator or an educator, what is your philosophy of higher education, or what is your college's philosophy? Also if you have any tips on where to find this information, or better ways to search, please let me know! Thanks for your help!

A. One reason why you may not be finding anything specifically on this topic is because it is subjective and interpretive. My opinion is that higher education is fine if it has a practical application. For instance, practicing law or becoming a doctor but there are many other professions where this could hamper the individual. From a professional aspect, the worst Engineers I have ever had on my staff or worked with me are PhD's. Their minds are developed in such an analytical manner that they become dysfunctional. Also, this is compounded by people who achieve degrees all in the same field i.e. engineering. I think it is great from a science perspective but from management or operatability it is useless. I would rather see an… [cont.]
