In its most common usage however, "fashion" describes the popular clothing style. Many fashions are popular in many cultures at any given time. Important is the idea that the course of design and fashion will change more rapidly than the culture as a whole. Fashion designers create and produce clothing articles. The terms "fashionable" and "unfashionable" were employed to describe whether someone or something fits in with the current or even not so current, popular mode of expression. However, more so in the modern era items termed 'not so current' may indeed fit into the term 'Retro.' Retro fashion allows rule shifts, such as 'old is suddenly new,' thus fashionable. The term "fashion" is frequently used in a positive sense, as a synonym for glamour, beauty and style. In this sense, fashions are a sort of communal art, through which a culture examines its notions of beauty and goodness. The term "fashion" is also sometimes used in a negative sense, as a synonym for fads and trends, and materialism. There exist a number of cities recognized as global fashion centers or fashion capitals. Fashion Weeks are held in these cities where designers exhibit their new clothing collections to audiences. The main four cities are Paris, Milan, New York, and London - these four are renowned for their major influence on global fashion and are headquarters to the greatest fashion companies. Other cities, including Tokyo, Los Angeles, Berlin, Rome, Buenos Aires,Toronto, Hong Kong, São Paulo, Sydney, Moscow, New Delhi and Miami also hold fashion weeks and are better recognized every year. GNU Free Documentation License How do you start becoming a fashion designer? Q. I'm a 14 year old girl and I love drawing, painting, and anything creative. My dream is to become a fashion designer, but i don't know how to sew or anything about fashion design. Is there any way that i could learn on my own and start designing now? These are called "fashion categories". Some examples of categories are: footwear, accessiores, juniorwear, career wear. Decide what category interests you the most. Next start a scrapbook or portfolio with pictures of that type of fashion. If you want to add sketches, that will add to the notebook. Also make a list of companies or brands in that category, as well as your most favorite and inspirational designers. My favorite design fashion is Baby Phat. Learn to draw drapery. If you can find a class that draws people or "life drawing", take that too. If you can't draw real people, start drawing from photos of fashion models. Also learn about color,… [cont.] Answered by expert 2009 - Wed Jun 10 18:29:00 2009 What are some good colleges for fashion merchandising and what are the requirements to get in? Q. That said, there are some "normal" colleges that offer good programs. If you are unsure of portfolio stuff-- Academy of Art University has a 100% admission rate and FIDM has a fairly simple portfolio. Q. I am a guy but when it gets warmer I am going to wear skirts. What are some fashion tips for wearing them, and what do you think looks best with a pleated skirt? Asked by yankeesmann1918 - Sun Feb 15 14:55:03 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. Why not? After all women wear trousers:) kilts like john paul gautier type need to be worn low slung hip not too low and choose a block colour like black or navy. Or a retro 80s nu rave pattern. Remember... Plain top with bright bottom! And reverse. Keep your legs hairy, dont wear tights - hair thru tights looks like a bag of coconuts fighting to get out! Wear close fitting underpants so if the wind blows you are a protected and b dont get arrested for a certain item:) showing. I would also try a cute mini skirt in red its very sexy with black ballet pumps or cone heel shoes. keep top half to a vest. Even if you are not serious:) Answered by Gone - Sun Feb 15 15:10:17 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "fashion" MyShape.com Introduces Innovative Ecommerce Fashion Tool
