Difference between working in a harbor and working in a bay?
Q. What would it be like to work in a harbor and what would be some of the difficulties researchers might encounter while working there, as opposed to conducting work in a more quiet, sheltered bay? I'm asking because I'm deciding whether I'd like to work in a harbor or a bay.
Asked by Lisa the great - Mon May 26 12:39:56 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Your question has more to do with defining the words than the thing you seem to be asking. A bay is any partially enclosed body of water. A harbor is a place where shipping takes place, where ships interact with a port and take on and put off cargo and passengers. A harbor can be in a bay, but it doesn't have to be. You seem to really be asking whether you want to work in a metropolitan, busy setting around a port, or whether to work in a rural setting away from a city. There is no right or wrong answer, it depends on what you want to do and what you want out of the job. Both places could be locations for important and fulfilling work.

Where is the best place in Washington State to Harbor a fishing boat?
Q. Could you tell me please? Westport has good fishing but you are always fighting the waves. Where would be the best place to catch Salmon (preferably King), best regulations, cheapest harboring, and the best ocean conditions? I live in Thurston County and can fly an airplane (singe prop) to get there after leaving the boat in the harbor. Best Answer points to best suggestion! Thank You!

A. Port orchard marina would be a good spot, the kings are on their way down from the san juan islands, bremerton airport is less than twenty minutes away, approx six miles neah bay or seiku would be great, but i don'T know how close an airport would be, or moorage, there is good fishing around this area that is easy access from port orchard, let me know if you are looking for a deckhand while you fish,

A. The oil embargo signed by President Roosevelt had severely crippled the Japanese expansionist drives, with more than nine-tenths of their petroleum sources cut off by the United States. Establishing control of the Pacific would allow the Japanese Empire to force the U.S. to submit on favorable terms for the resuming of oil importation, and thus it was decided that the best manner to go about this was to exterminate the American military presence. The attack on Pearl Harbor was conducted with the intent of destroying what the Japanese Navy thought were the most valuable targets of interests: Battleships. How can I prevent Pearl Harbor from happening?
Q. I have to do a presentation, and I have to change history so that Pearl Harbor didn't happen. It can't take any more than fifteen minutes to change it and one thing from the 21st century can be brought back. And if it can't be prevented, does anyone know a way to make it so that Germany can get an atom bomb before the US?
Asked by Firedrawn Archer - Tue Jul 20 22:23:48 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Maybe if the military people in charge at Pearl Harbor knew that the attack was coming, they could have been ready for it. You could take a book about the attack on Pearl Harbor from the present and leave it on the desk of the guy in charge. If you go back to at least a few weeks before the event, the military might be able to come up with a way to prevent it themselves. You just have to hope that they take the book seriously. They might think it was fake, but that would be a pretty elaborate hoax. There is a good chance that they would take the necessary precautions just to be on the safe side.

What happened to the actual crates of tea that were dumped into Boston Harbor during the Tea Party of 1773?
Q. I always wonder about these obscure details. Did the tea that was dumped into the harbor just end up sitting there for the past 236 years? Would it be possible for a diver to find it today? Were the crates ever recovered? Does anyone know?
Asked by shempmania81 - Wed May 20 09:46:52 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. the point of the protest was to make the tea unusable; so the Sons of Liberty actually broke open the crates and dumped the tea...otherwise the crates, which were relatively waterproof to keep the tea from spoiling during shipping would have floated away and could have been recovered later. So the tea mixed with Boston Harbor, giving the fish a caffeine buzz, and the wood went out with the tide..

How can I program my remote control for my Harbor Breeze ceiling fan?
Q. I own a Harbor Breeze ceiling fan, and it is controlled mainly by remote control. In order to turn the light or fan on, I need to use the remote; the wall switch only controls if there is power going to it or not. Recently, I noticed the battery on my remote was dying (it has a little blinking indicator for low battery life). So, absent-mindendly of the consequences, I changed the battery. Now the remote won't work at all. Even though the numbers and such show up the same as usual, the fan unit doesn't respond. Do I need to reprogram the remote after switching the battery? And how would I go about doing that? The Control is a Harbor Breeze LCD Remote Control, if that helps.

A. This is a Lowes brand, and I tried searching, but their site is down now for maintenance. I would suggest starting with a trip to Lowes if you can't find the directions, or they don't help you, and you can't find any reset switches (there should be one on the fan, the remote, or both). Here is the link to the google search anyways...it isn't really helpful right now...but your answer may reside there if it becomes available any time soon.

Why is the Harbor of Rio de Janeiro considered one of the natural wonders of the world?
Q. Because I am doing my english oral presentation of the subject of The Seven Natural Wonders of the World. And on every list there is on the natural wonders, the Harbor of Rio de Janeiro is on there. I have researched it slightly and I do not see why it is so facinating. I even looked at it from google earth. It doesn't look that spectacular. Am I missing something? Is it really that great and I just don't see why? Why does the harbor and sea have patterns on it?
Q. We live on Sydney Harbor and last night the water was very flat, but there were patterns on the water, like patches and trails and they stayed very consistent. Why is this? Is it the wind or the tides. What forms these patterns and why do they persist?
Asked by GraemeS - Mon Jun 25 21:45:50 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If the water was mirror flat, there was little to no wind or tide, for both would cause the surface to be patterned with at least ripple-wave action. What you saw might well have been seaweed or plankton groups floating on the surface of the water. Since the pattern didn't change while you watched, it was probably seaweed that small currents, or minimal tide action, had pushed into patterns.

A. A Japanese mini-sub was spotted trailing the USS Condor as it maneuvered through the sub nets that protected the opening to the harbor. The USS Ward opened fire, but was never REALLY sure at what they were depth charging. They radioed in their report. It was all of about 1/2 hour before the actual raid.

A. It was highly praised. Of course no civilian knew a plan of the attack in advance but Japanese media always had depicted Anglo-American as demons and threat to Empire of Japan. War against China was at a deadlock, economy was damaged from war effort and casualties were increasing. The US supported China. Success of the attack was accepted as breakthrough of this situation, at least people thought so at the time. It raised the morale of the Japanese people which had been so low because of the long war in China. People made a donation to the navy ministry. 1,590,139 yen was donated within few days after the attack and 3,407,170 yen after military gains were reported on Dec.18.
