How does temperature play a factor as salmon navigate up stream?
Q. I need help on how temperature can help navigate salmon up steam. Also what is a way i can test this out (experiment).
Asked by Erik - Sun Jul 19 22:41:45 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. From the article in the link below: "warm water temperatures along the migration route and may lead to stress and fish mortality." I can't tell you how to run an experiment, unless you happen to have access to some sockeye salmon and can prove that their behavior and swimming behavior change as the water warms up. Myself I would simply research and quote the same references and studies from the article below. With only 3 hours before your question expires, I hope this is good enough for your purposes.

How do I navigate The Rocks area with a wheelchair?
Q. My sister, mother and I will be traveling to Sydney in a couple of weeks. My mother has a bad knee so we will be using a wheelchair for her. I recently read that the area around The Rocks is hilly. Will wheeling my mother around in a wheelchair be a problem? Furthermore, we booked a room at the Shangri-La Sydney which I read now is actually up a steep hill. Does anyone know of a way to navigate thru that so we can still walk to Circular Quay while pushing her in the wheelchair? Thanks.
Asked by Ethel - Sun Jan 3 14:06:19 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You'll be ok but it depends a little bit how far you're going into The Rocks area because the first straight through road, coming from George St, isn't steep at all. After this road curvs left at the end of a long street of shops and restaurants it gets steeper. So it depends a little bit on where you want to go in The Rocks. The street I described leads also to Circular Quay and you can turn right on a crossroad half way to the harbor area. This is all very doable. You could also make your way through the night markets in The Rocks. there are some steeper parts but really nothing to worry about. If you want to go up north further than where the market is held than I suggest you'd arrange some transport.

What tools did ancient Egyptians use to navigate?
Q. Did ancient Egyptians (around Cleopatra's time) invent any of their own tools to navigate, or did the use the basic compass? How did they create their maps and know the distance and location of things? Did they navigate by stars?
Asked by D K - Sun Jan 31 19:04:42 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It was the Nile. It went up and down. Every Egyptian city be built along Nile. They just need to find port. It not like Egyptians be sailing oceans. They just be sailing rivers which go up and down or east and west.

Lost at sea with no forms of navigation other than the stars. How can you use the stars to navigate?
Q. Here's the scenario: You are on a boat somewhere in the ocean and all of a sudden for some mysterious reason all forms of navigation are broken. Its just you, the boat and the night sky. The constellations are not familiar to you and the Big dipper and little dipper cannot be found. How can you use the stars visible to you to navigate?
Asked by No name - Fri Feb 20 20:36:55 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Make up names for a few patterns of stars you can see near the horizon in each of the 4 directions ("Three stars on diagonal" "Bunch of Fuzzy") and note them. 20 minutes later observe them again. Those nearest the east will be higher in the sky, those to the west will be lower or out of sight are to the west. Those shifted counter-clockwise are to the north, while those south are shifted clockwise. If you happened to make a poor choice and got NW, SE, etc. you might pick some new "constellations" closer to the points. You have a 50% chance that the moon is in the sky and for more than half the night it will be distinctly east or west of straight overhead. For guidance. You can use the height of the moon when overhead to… [cont.]

How successfully does Hamlet, in your view, navigate this treacherous middle-ground? To what extent has he c?
Q. How successfully does Hamlet, in your view, navigate this treacherous middle-ground? To what extent has he compromised his conscience and/or his duties by the end of the play?
Asked by bcsoccerbabe5 - Sun Nov 30 01:37:01 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. He doesn't deal with it very well at all. He felt that his only choice he has is to kill his uncle and because he hesitates one too many times, he gets the type of resolution that he never wanted. His conscience was clear for most of the play until the very end when he ended up causing the death of the people he had not meant to hurt. As for his duties I believe he spent the whole play agonizing over his duty that he belived was to kill Claudius. I hope I answered the question you asked since I'm a little confused about what you meant by middle-ground.

How do I navigate an open road race?
Q. I am looking to enter in an open road race and I have to have a navigator. In the race the navigator's job is to find out how many seconds ahead or behind you and your driver are so you can adjust your speed. You can't pass a certain speed and you have to average your time/speed out over the course to be the driver closest to the target speed. How would the navigator find this time/navigate the course? Or what equation would they use?
Asked by eskamo - Tue Oct 6 12:40:30 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's not a race. It's called a TSD or Road Rally. TSD stands for Time Speed and Distance. There are three classes and each region defines the classes different. -Stock -Prepared -Equiped BTW: It's been about 5 years for me so I'm sorry if I get something wrong. Each class has nothing to do with car modification. Remember the goal is to be on time not be the fastest. Stock typically involves a single function calculator. Prepared is using a variety of tools such as a slide ruler and a bunch of other fancy pants stuff. Equiped usually requires a rally computer that can calculate speed/time/distance. Remeber: Time = Distance / Speed Distance = Time * Speed Speed = Distance / Time You'll be given a set of notes that… [cont.]

assuming technology was available how would scientists navigate their way to a black-hole ?
Q. how distant is the nearest black-hole from our planet ? how would they navigate towards a black-hole -how would they find one ?
Asked by Margeaux Daneam - Fri Jun 27 20:21:11 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If scientist had the technology...I could imagine that the scientist would probably use a system much like sending probes to distant planets, using the stars or planets to help accelerate the probe like a "slingshot" to a black hole candidate. But why go to a black hole? Even if the heat and pressure is greatest on the inside, it doesn't mean a black hole is frozen on the outside. The black hole is still giving off heat and radiation to fry a machines circuits and melt the machine, the pressure to crush it, and the gravity to drag it in to an abyss of nothingness inside the black hole. So it really would be more of a test of what would happen if we got close to a black hole.

How do people navigate in the desert, before compass and GPS came into the picture?
Q. I once joined a desert trip, and I noticed that the driver was constantly looking at the skies, I asked our guide about it, and I was told that the driver was looking at the stars to feel his directions. How exactly can one navigate "blindly" in a desert? How do they do it in daytime (when there are no stars)?
Asked by Anne C - Mon Sep 22 08:54:33 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It is amazing when you see the size and emptiness of the desert that people could find their way across it without getting lost or missing an oasis by a mile. The answer to your question is "experience and knowledge". If you know that a particular star is in a particular place at a particular time and date, you can navigate by it. If you can find the pole star, you always know which way is north. In the daytime there is one star that is usually visible in the desert, the sun.

A. If you want to keep using the new homepage, then click Page Options, then click Switch to compact View. That will get rid of the pop up pages. If you want to return to the original homepage, then go to Internet Options and delete the temp files and cookies, click Ok at the bottom, then restart the computer, if you don't restart, then it won't stay, then use this link.

A. Sorry, you need the trackball for navigation. You could try to get it replaced by the phone company, but they might charge it as abuse/physical damage, even though clearly it isn't. You might be able to get away with it though, if your ring & prongs are still intact.
